The Somali National Army said on Sunday, March 29, 2020, that 142 al-Shabaab militants were killed, 29 injured and 18 arrested during an on-going operation in Janale, a town in Southern Somalia.
A commander of Somalia army who spoke Somali National TV, Osman Shabel said they arrested 18 fighters of the militants and seized weapons during the operation, and praised SNA forces after they fully recaptured Janale town from the al-Qaeda linked militants two weeks ago.
He said there were no casualties from Somali National Army while troops facilitated displaced families to return home and gave them food rations. Somalia has been plagued by terrorism for more than a decade, perpetrated by the al-Shabaab militant group.
The war waged by the terrorists, who have been trying to topple the central government, has killed tens of thousands and forced millions to flee their homes. al-Shabaab militants claimed the responsibility of a suicide bombing that killed a governor.
