Locals in Bafang, a town Cameroon’s Haut-Nkam Division of the West Region have blamed the death of two persons in a fire incident on the country’s Army Rescue Unit.
A local authority in the precinct called the accusations baseless and senseless.
The duo died in a fire incident that occurred at Metro, a popular bar in the town. The fire erupted at about 1 AM GMT+1, Thursday May 21, 2020. Locals were deep asleep, sources have told National Telegraph.
Townspeople around the bar at the time the fire started said they had little or no means to help put out the inferno.
The flames could have been put out on time, they say, adding it wasn’t because the region’s lone Army Rescue Unit is in its capital city, Bafoussam.
Law enforcement officials have now said two persons were inside the snack bar when it got burnt. Preliminary investigations say electrical problems triggered the inferno.
