Cameroon: 3-Member Inter-ministerial Commission Dispatched To Landslide Affected Bafoussam.

The government of the Central African country, Cameroon has formed an inter-ministerial commission of three ministers following a landslide in the country’s West region that claimed 42 lives.

A source in the country’s capital, Yaounde told National Telegraph late Tuesday October 29, 2019, that the Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Mindhu) – Célestine Ketcha Courtès , Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (Minader) – Henri Eyebe Ayissi, and Minister of Public Health (Minsante) – Manaouda Malachie have all been grouped into one commission to visit the site, Wednesday October 30, 2019.

The Commission is set up to do findings and present its results to the Prime Minister, National Telegraph has been told. The total number of casualties in the landslide have increased and recent updates from the site at Gouatchié IV, the precise quarter in Bafoussam where the incident took place put the dead bodies at 42.

The dead bodies of six (6) adult males, ten (10) women; among them four (4) with pregnancies, eleven (11) young boys, fifteen (15) girls have been retrieved. The others are said to be aged persons.

Rescuers had initially put the number of dead bodies retrieved from the ground after the landslide at seven (7) and later eight (8) but 42 were confirmed by authorities at the close of the day with as many as more than thirty still missing.

The country’s President, Paul Biya has also in a telegram on Tuesday October 29, 2019, to the Region’s Governor, Awah Fonkam Augustine extended condolences to affected families.

The search for survivors will continue for rescue workers to dig up mud and see how many more people will be rescued or dead bodies retrieved, a government official said. Meanwhile, family members and friends of those still missing remain in anxieties.

Municipal and administrative authorities arrived the scene, including the region’s Governor and the country’s Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji who were all on site, Tuesday October 29, 2019, to measure the extend of the destruction and bring relief to survivors.

National Telegraph has gathered the incident happened at about 10:30 pm Monday October 28, 2019, at Gouatchié IV, a quarter in Bafoussam Troisieme or III Sub-division.
