Cameroon: 59-Year-Old Commits Suicide In Mile 16 Days After Buea Mayor Died.

By Eric Tataw – Tuesday October 29, 2019.

Ekema Patrick Esunge, Mayor of Buea died under undetermined circumstances.

A 59-year-old woman has died after committing suicide in Cameroon’s South West, Tuesday October 29, 2019, inhabitants of Mile 16 – Bolifamba where the incident happened have told National Telegraph.

Martha Afu aka Mami Lum consumed high amounts of Mocap, a chemical substance she used in fertilizing her maize, eyewitnesses said.

On-the-spot reports say she was hallucinating. She seem to have been hearing strange voices and kept on saying her children were giving her headache, a family source told National Telegraph, adding she has gone through this for months.

Martha then decided to consume Mocap to end her own life and escape the attacks. Another source said, after consuming the substance, neighbours came to rush her to the hospital but she hesitated.

Locals testify she later changed her mind but died before they arrived with her at the hospital. Her residence around Stone Quarters still remains crowded late Tuesday while her stiff was deposited at the Buea Regional Mortuary morgue.

This is happening only two days after Ekema Patrick Esunge, Mayor of Buea, a major council in Cameroon’s South West died at 42 in a hospital in Douala, early Sunday October 27, 2019 under unclear circumstances.

No official report has been released stating the exact cause of his death. His office has been sealed while investigation has been opened into the matter, sources confirmed to National Telegraph. Mile 16 is in same Municipality the Mayor had administer before his sudden death.
