Two medical doctors at the Bamenda Regional Hospital, a government-run hospital in the capital of Cameroon’s restive North West Region have been kidnapped, National Telegraph has been told.

Doctor Dobgima Walter Pisoh, a Gynecologist was kidnapped by a group of unidentified men late Wednesday July 17, 2019 in their Chubo residence, around Sacred Heart, a popular Catholic college in Bamenda.

Reports say he was picked up with his wife, Doctor Fotso Sandrine, a General Practitioner at same hospital. The hospital is yet to make an official statement on the incident, sources have said.

Some quarters have pointed fingers at Ambazonia fighters saying they might be responsible for the act although they’ve refused any wrongdoing. Many quarters have however called for the couple’s immediate release, National Telegraph has learned.

Doctor Dobgima Walter Pisoh is son to Prof Pisoh, a renowned Cameroonian Surgeon working in the country’s capital, Yaounde, a source told National Telegraph.

Cameroon’s two English-speaking regions are engulfed in a deadly armed conflict and several groups including elements of the armed forces and mobile police have been accused of kidnapping and targeting innocent civilians, including their goods and chattels, sources say.

Insecurity has greatly increased in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon with Anglophone armed groups fighting for the Restoration of the statehood of Ambazonia, a self-declared independent country the rebels are trying to establish in the Cameroon’s North West and South West Regions.
