At least one person in a gang of three holduppers was killed, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, when they tried to rob a hotel and snatch 25 million FCFA in the Cameroonian city of Douala, National Telegraph has confirmed.
A second member of the gang was shot on the leg as he tried to escape while the third successfully escaped, townspeople in Bonamoussadi, the locality in Douala V Municipality, in the country’s Littoral Region where the incident occurred said.
A hospitality worker in the facility told a National Telegraph secret stringer the trio came with the aim of killing a guest lodged in the hotel with 25 million FCFA on him but didn’t explain how it got the leak.
An anti-gang unit of the Gendarmerie in the precinct foiled the plan after it responded to an inkling about the alleged robbery in progress.
“Unfortunately, the anti-gang unit of the Gendarmerie was already aware of the said attack. So they were there on time,” said an on-the-spot source.
Law enforcement officers said they successfully retrieved an automatic pistol, bullets and a knife from the operation.
The trio had just recently been released from a major prison in the same region where they carried out the thwarted operation, Gendrame records show.
