The Superior General of Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus of Buea, Cameroon has died of COVID-19, National Telegraph can confirm.
Rev. Sr. Ngu Grace died at the Douala General Hospital in Cameroon’s Littoral Region, early Saturday, April 11, 2020, sources say.
She was attacked by ischemic stroke more than a fortnight ago and hospitalized at an infirmary in Fiango, Kumba in the country’s South West Region.
Rev. Sr. Ngu Grace was moved to Hôpital Catholique Notre dame de l’amour Logpom Douala and on Thursday, April 9, 2020, she was diagnosed as having the novel Coronavirus that claimed her life early Saturday.
The prioress was buried at the cathedral cemetery in Douala after Archbishop Samuel Kleda of the Douala Metropolitan Archdiocese blessed her grave.
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus of Buea, was founded by Bishop Jules Peeters, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, on June 25, 1963. It’s headquartered in Kumba.
It was founded with permission from the Holy See to function as an Apostolic Diocesan Congregation of Religious Women with public vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience whose purpose is to glorify God through lives of total commitment to Him and to the service of His Church.
At least 210 countries are affected by COVID-19, with total confirmed cases at 1,780,315 and 108,828 deaths. Cameroon has officially announced 820 confirmed cases with a total of 12 deaths.
