An Italian citizen and popular Cameroonian activist who now prefers to be called an Ambazonian Activist has been arrested by loyalists of the Regime of Paul Biya, President of the Central African country of Cameroon, National Telegraph has confirmed.
Fritz Takang fondly called Bush Hunter is presently being held in solitary confinement at the country’s National Gendarmerie headquarters – SED, National Telegraph can authoritatively state.
According to our sources, the firebrand activist was arrested, January 7, 2019 between the Nigerian and Cameroonian border towns of Ikom and Ekok respectively.
Fritz is also a Pastor and a writer known for his popular book; Destiny Encounter. He’s also well known for his fine and well-articulated activism. Reports say his arrest isn’t unconnected to an order from the Presidency. The Activist left Italy for Nigeria since August of 2018 till date, said a close friend.
During his arrest, he was held at the Gendarmerie in Mamfe, a war-torn town in Manyu, one of the restive Divisions of the country’s South West before his transfer to another detention centre in Buea, the Region’s capital where he was finally moved to SED in Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital.
Unrest in Cameroon’s two English-speaking regions began in October 2016 as a disagreement in language but government mismanaged it, turning it into a demand by majority of Anglophones in the North West and South West for a separate state called Ambazonia.
Gun battles have ensued and the government has been accused of numerous Human Rights violation, including mass arrest of activists, targeted killings and the burning down of entire villages according to credible reports from the US Ambassador to Cameroon, Peter Henry Barlerin, reputable Human Rights Lawyer Agbor Balla and Bishops of Mamfe and Kumbo.
