Liberia Ambassador To Senegal Dies.

Liberia Ambassador to Senegal Mary-Ann Fossung died in Tunisia.

Liberia Ambassador to Senegal Mary-Ann Fossung has died, National Telegraph can confirm. Her death was also announced by the State Radio, ELBC on February 4, 2020.

Mary-Ann Fossung died on February 3, 2020, at the Carthagene Hospital in Tunis- Tunisia after battling illness. Fossung first took an assignment at the Liberia Foreign Ministry in Senegal in 2018 and was commissioned as first Secretary. After her dedication to her Secretary post, she was later promoted to becoming an Ambassador in 2019.

Liberia’s President, George Weah also confirmed the Diplomat’s death on his official Facebook page. “It is with utmost sadness that I have learned of the death of Ambassador Mary-Ann Fossung, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary accredited to the Republic of Senegal with oversight for our Foreign Missions in the Republics of Gambia and Cape Verde respectively”, he said.

The President also enjoined his government and the entire population of Liberia to join the Fossung family in mourning the passing of their loved one. “I would like to, on behalf of the Government and in my own name, extend my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the Fossung Family, Our Foreign Service – most especially our Mission in Senegal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all others affected by this loss.”, the President said. 

According to President Weah, the Ambassador’s death is a big loss to Liberia and urged Liberians to send out condolences to the Ambassador’s family. “Indeed, Liberia has lost a great soul and a committed public servant. May her soul rest in perfect peace and may light perpetual shine on her.”, said Weah.

President Weah also praised her time in Senegal.  “Her time as Ambassador to Senegal saw a heightened period of cooperation between our respective Governments, and further created several opportunities for the benefit of our respective countries.”

President Weah also believes the Ambassador’s death creates a deep void within the Foreign Affairs Ministry. “Ambassador Fossung was a dedicated diplomat who worked assiduously to promote our Foreign Policy and deepen bilateral relations and economic cooperation – between the Government and people of Senegal and that of ours. She served with utmost probity and distinction, and her passing has created a deep void within our Foreign Service as she will truly be missed,” he said.
