Cameroon: Military, CONGELCAM Trucks Collide, Kill Dozen In Sombo.

By Eric Tataw – Monday October 14, 2019.

A truck belonging to CONGELCAM SA, leader in the importation, distribution and sale of sea products in the Central African country of Cameroon has been involved in a deadly accident, National Telegraph has confirmed.

Reports say the truck has been involved in a head-on collision with a military truck at Sombo, a town in Nyong-et-Kelle Division in Cameroon’s Centre Region, some 71 kilometers away from Edea.

A National Telegraph secret stringer on the spot filed in that the accident occurred at about some few minutes after 10 PM GMT, Monday October, 14, 2019.

The total number of deaths wasn’t immediately registered but eyewitness accounts say at least a dozen people are feared dead.

The military truck was going to Douala while CONGELCAM’s was en route to Yaoundé before the incident happened, National Telegraph has been told.

Heavy traffic with a long holdup on vehicles has resulted and there’re fears passengers might spend several hours on the road.

Some victims have been rushed to nearby infirmaries while local authorities have arrived the scene to take stock of the situation. Road safety officials have also opened investigation into the matter.

Road accidents have become phenomenal in Cameroon, mostly resulting from poor road infrastructures, reckless driving and bad state of most automobiles that bribe their ways into major highways with permit from government services.
