By Tina S. Mehnpaine – Monrovia, Liberia, Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
As the much talk about December George Weah step-down protest is gearing up, George Weah and some strong officials of his Government are working tirelessly to abort it.
At the center of the campaign is a well-known George Weah’s confidant, Henry P. Costa. President George Weah has reportedly threatened his cabinet in private meetings in recent times over the issue.
“I have already made History. It will never change because I am in the History books of Liberia as President. I am only 53, I don’t want to end up like Doe or Taylor.
So, you guys must stop Henry P. Costa and others or discourage them during this December 30 protest. If the protest is large I will not put blood on my hands, we will all go,” this leaked statement clearly shows Liberia’s President and his entire government are in trouble.
Although the authenticity of the leaked Weah confession still remains unsubstantiated, Weah’s camp at least remains in panic. National Telegraph has gathered the protest is scheduled for December 30, 2019, with the chief organizers being the Council of Patriots.
The Council of Patriots was founded this 2019, by four opposition parties; Unity Party headed by Joseph N.Boakai, Liberty Party headed by Charles Walker Brumskin, Alternative National Congress of Alexander Cumming Weeks, and the All Liberian Party of Benion Urey.
These four parties said to have participated in the 2017 presidential election and all lost are now divided over the protest, a source told National Telegraph, adding only a few members of the council are actively involved with the preparation of the protest.
That notwithstanding, the brain behind the campaign, Henry P. Costa, the most popular Liberian Radio Talk Show host who is based in the US will arrive in the West African country, December 19, 2019.
Costa’s radio station Roots F.M 107.2 has been shut down by the Government. Roots F.M has been one of the radio stations on the throttle, always exposing Government deeds and informing the Liberian people about how the government is being run and how they use the revenue and taxes, National Telegraph has gathered.
Henry P. Costa has the majority support of the citizens especially the youth as demonstrated by a June 7 protest. During the June 7 protest, thousands of Liberians took to the streets of Monrovia to Petition the Government on several national issues.
During this protest, the government is said to have given protesters a month to meet their petition but to date, none of the concerns have been addressed, a youth Monrovia, Liberia’s capital said.
Many Liberians are frustrated over the bad leadership of President George Weah and his officials. within two years, the entire country has gone broke; no money to pay civil servants, no money to pay officials and the prices of commodities are increasing on a daily basis and families can not afford a meal a day.
Banks are running bankrupt and people can hardly get their own money from their accounts in various banks, all blamed on the government. As agitations continue to grow, a wild and vulnerable collection of youths have been groomed. Costa is exactly counting on this to build the momentum.
George Weah can still fix it. But with less than three weeks left and with Weah’s failure to have solved just a single problem from the list protesters presented during the last protest; over more than five months ago, to arrest the situation in three weeks will need a Jesus straight from Heaven. However, never say never!
